The Kinneret Sea has recorded an increase of 12 million cubic meters of fresh water over the past week of heavy rains, representing a rise in sea level of 7 centimeters. Israel's largest reservoir now stands at 213.86 meters below sea level, almost three feet below what is called the "red line." The heavy rains of yesterday were concentrated mostly in the coastal plains and the south, and not in the area of the Kinneret in the north, thus providing less of a boost to the Kinneret than could have been expected.

The heavy rains of the last two days had some unwanted consequences, especially in the densely-built - and densely-paved - areas near Tel Aviv. The city of Holon, for instance, suffered flooding and much water damage, and dozens of children and adults were evacuated from nurseries, schools, and apartments. Interior Minister Eli Yeshai promised to transfer to the Holon municipality one million shekels to repair the rain damage. Mayor Moti Sasson also committed to provide a similar sum from the city budget.
