The Movement for Quality in Government petitioned the Supreme Court today against Foreign Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's intention to make several new senior-level appointments in the Foreign Ministry. Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy issued a restraining order against the appointments, and instructed Netanyahu to explain his position on the matter within two days.

The petitioners claimed that high-level appointments of this nature should not be made only a week before national elections. Foreign Ministry sources said in response that all the new appointments made since Netanyahu took office have been professional and not political, and that the Ministry's workers union has agreed to the upcoming appointments.
