Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz told the Cabinet this morning that in light of recent events, Israel should be prepared for an American attack on Iraq in the coming weeks. "The finding of the nuclear warheads in Iraq proves that Iraq has lied to the world," Mofaz said. Prime Minister Sharon told the ministers that the chances that Israel would be attacked are "low."
Israeli defense officials will hold another meeting regarding Israel's state of preparedness, vis-a-vis the events in Iraq, in February, following the submission of the UN arms inspectors' report to the world body at the end of January. Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that the American troops that arrived here in the past weeks are taking part in a three-day anti-missile exercise with Israel in preparation for a possible Iraqi attack on Israel - a drill whose date was scheduled a while ago.
Finkler also noted that the Americans are considering transferring the American Embassy in Tel Aviv - not to Jerusalem, but rather to the southern port city of Eilat, temporarily, as an extra precautionary measure in case of war with Iraq.
