Every family has their ups and downs, but what a family in Israel has been through in the past 7 months could only be described as one thing:
A roller coaster.
Seven months ago, the Neumans* mourned the loss of their father, who was ripped from them in a sudden tragedy at the age of 43. While this is enough to have the family processing for years, however, right now they simply don’t have the time.
Because right now, they are extremely worried about their 18-year-old, Eli.
Eli has been battling a serious illness since the age of thirteen. Thanks to modern medicine there is a specialized drug that keeps him alive, but after her husband’s recent death Mrs. Neuman has run out of the funds necessary to continue paying for many important things, including the medication.
In 18-year-old Eli’s words:
“...with my father gone my mother is struggling to pay rent, put food on the table, to somehow scrape together money to make a wedding for my engaged sister, even to pay for the medication I need to battle this illness. The treatment costs a tremendous amount and as a fatherless orphan, I don’t have a penny to my name…My family has been through so much loss this year. I think any more pain would break them.”
Eliyahu’s parents, siblings, extended family, and neighbors are currently praying for his recovery, and that there should be a miraculous raising of funds that will allow him to get the medicine he needs. It is impossible to know how much longer he can hold out without his medication.
