One hundred (100) cars which had been ordered removed from the road for safety reasons, and which were nevertheless still being operated, were seized by the authorities. Cars that have been ordered removed from the road are frequently used throughout Judea and Samaria (where they are known by the Arabic colloquialism mashtuba) despite the safety risks involved, causing inconvenience to other motorists and danger to the operators.
Judea Region police officers operated during the past week to seize vehicles of this type. Dozens of Israel Police officers from several departments, along with the IDF, worked in order to seize and remove these vehicles from the roads of Judea and Samaria.
All the vehicles were moved to impound lots, and from there will be sold for scrap.
The commander of the Judea Region of the Israel Police, Deputy Superintendent Yossi Golan, summarized the operation and said: "These vehicles are a real danger to those who drive them and to other road users. These vehicles are often involved in traffic accidents, terrorism, and illegal activities. We will continue to act with full vigor to enforce and reduce the phenomenon."
The police emphasize: "Driving in a vehicle that has been ordered removed from the road, sold for scrap, or whose use is prohibited - is prohibited and against the law. Driving this type of vehicle is subject to punishment. The police will continue to work to change the driving culture, while incorporating public education and preventative actions for drivers."
