A protester was run over during Wednesday evening’s protest, in which demonstrators blocked the Ayalon Highway in protest over the resignation of Tel Aviv District Commander Ami Eshed.
The incident was documented live on Kan 11 News, which was reporting from the scene of the protest.
During the demonstration, protesters smashed the windows of a car that was trying to pass and hit a protester. According to the Israel Police spokesperson, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
The demonstrators also lit flares on the road and waved flags and signs. Police forces in large numbers were deployed to the scene but permitted the protest to continue for several hours.
After about three hours, a water cannon and mounted officers were brought into the scene in attempt to evacuate the protesters and open the road to traffic, but these actions were also carried out in a very measured manner.
