MK Almog Cohen (Otzma Yehudit) was attacked on the road on Monday evening as he made his way from the Knesset to his home in the Negev, together with his adviser.
Cohen recalled that on Highway 40, before the Beit Kama interchange, a Skoda car appeared on the road and cut Cohen off the right shoulder while traveling at a high speed and almost causing a fatal accident.
The MK followed the vehicle until it stopped at the entrance to the Bedouin city of Rahat, at which point another vehicle arrived from the city and blocked Cohen’s vehicle in a threatening manner, while standing against the direction of traffic on the highway.
Cohen, armed with a gun, exited his vehicle and headed towards the vehicle that was blocking his path, but, he said, when he was recognized - the vehicles fled towards the city of Rahat. The vehicle’s license plate number has been reported to the Israel Police.
"This is not a unique incident, but rather the surreal daily routine of the residents of the Negev. I'm glad that it happened to me and not to a vehicle with a mother and children inside, because it could have easily ended in deaths. I will continue and work with all my might towards my goal from day one: To change this dangerous reality that has taken and will continue to take lives," Cohen said.
