Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that the social media platform will soon introduce new features, including voice, video calling and other capabilities.
Musk hinted that three of the new features are similar to capabilities available with Facebook’s direct messaging, Fox News reported.
Twitter’s new features will let users "talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number," Musk said on Twitter.
Twitter will also soon have encrypted direct messaging (DM) capabilities. Musk tweeted that the feature will be available in the coming days.
The encrypted DM capability “will grow in sophistication rapidly," Musk predicted.
"The acid test is that I could not see your DMs even if there was a gun to my head,” he added.
While other platforms, such as Meta’s Facebook messenger and WhatsApp, have encryption features, Twitter has been slow to embrace the technology until now.
Musk said they were also working to upgrade DM features, especially reaction emojis.
"We are already working on improving these features – web support and better rendering for replies to media messages," Twitter Support told Fox News.
