Palestinian Authority (PA) cabinet leader Mohammad Shtayyeh met on Tuesday with ambassadors and consuls of various countries ahead of the meetings of the donor countries in Brussels next month.

At the meeting, Shtayyeh said that "the lack of a political horizon, and the difficult economic situation we are facing, are the result of the continuation of the unilateral Israeli measures, which are followed by the continuation of daily incursions into Palestinian areas, arrests and killings, the expansion of settlements, and unfair and illegal deductions of our money."

"Israel made many promises during the previous meetings of the donor countries and did not fulfill any of them. We want serious pressure on Israel at the next meeting to keep and fulfill these promises, to stop all deductions from our funds and to be committed to all the agreements signed with it," he added.

Shtayyeh once again called on the international community to pressure Israel to hold elections in all Palestinian Authority territories, including Jerusalem, in accordance with the agreements signed and the previous settlement in this matter.

The Israeli government has in the past decided to offset the tax money it collects on behalf of the PA because of the monthly financial aid it provides to families of terrorists. The decision meant it would withhold around $10 million per month from revenues of some $190 million per month it collects on the PA's behalf.

PA officials have remained defiant and have made clear that the PA will never cease paying terrorists' salaries.

PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas has in the past called the PA's continued payments to terrorists a "red line" that would not be halted under any circumstances.
