MK Ohad Tal of the Religious Zionist Party on Tuesday said he opposes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement that the previous government is to blame for the wave of murderous terrorism that has hit Israel over the past two months.
"We must not blame previous governments for the security situation, the responsibility is on us," Tal said in an interview on Reshet Bet radio."Blaming others will not eradicate terrorism."
At the same time, he said he agreed with the Prime Minister on the issue of refusal to serve and said that "the things that Netanyahu said are facts and not far-fetched things. Does anyone have doubts about the calls for refusal? When the atmosphere in the country is one of division - our enemies see and take advantage of it."
The comments followed Netanyahu’s speech from Monday, in which he blamed the previous government for the current wave of terrorism in Israel.
Netanyahu pointed an accusing finger at the protests against the judicial reform and claimed that "our enemies interpreted the calls for refusal to serve as a weakness in our national strength."
Criticizing the previous government led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, Netanyahu said, "The previous government signed an agreement of surrender to Hezbollah, without any compensation." He added that "yesterday I met the head of the opposition, and I asked him: 'When you declare that Israel is collapsing, how do you think this is received by our enemies?', they hear it and see it and write about it."
