Rafik Halabi, the head of the news section on Israel’s Channel One, handed in his resignation this morning. The letter, addressed to Yosef Barel, CEO of the Broadcasting Authority, cited lack of manpower as the reason for Halabi’s decision. Halabi noted that 17 employees of the news section have quit in recent months, without Barel supplying replacements. He wrote that he can no longer be responsible for the deterioration in quality of Channel One’s journalistic and professional services.
IDF Radio will not be allowed to play copyright-protected music, Israeli or foreign, beginning next Sunday. This, according to a temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court this week in the context of a suit brought against the military radio station by an Israeli organization of performing artists. In effect, the order will shut down almost all musical programming on the IDF station. IDF media administrators are maintaining “radio silence” as to the order, until a decision is reached as to how the station will respond.
