Former Chief Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef underwent cardiac balloon angioplasty in Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem yesterday. The rabbi was reported to be in good condition following the procedure. Rabbi Ovadiah, as he is known, is an internationally recognized authority on Jewish law and the spiritual leader of the Shas party. He was visited in hospital last night by former Shas political head Rabbi Aryeh Deri. Deri recently expressed his renewed support for Shas, after a period of silence regarding political matters that had led to rumors regarding a permanent rift between Deri and his former mentor, Rabbi Ovadiah.
