A high level of IDF activity in Judea, Samaria and Gaza has been reported over recent days.

In an unrelated incident, an IDF soldier sustained light injuries in a stone-throwing attack in the city of Shechem. Also in the Shechem region, ten Arabs suspected of terrorist activities were arrested last night. Two other arrests were made in Hirbat Carmel south of Hevron, while an Islamic Jihad terrorist was apprehended near Hevron. Other arrests were made near Jenin. All told, during the night, IDF forces arrested sixteen PA residents suspected of activities related to terrorism. In Tul Qarem, a male armed with a firebomb was shot and seriously wounded by IDF troops on Monday night. Soldiers were uninjured in the attack. And near the village of Salfit a PA security official wanted by Israeli security forces was found dead last night. No information surrounding the circumstances of his death were made available.
In Gaza last night, an undercover border police unit shot and killed four armed terrorists. The policemen were searching for wanted suspects at the time, when gunmen opened fired at the unit. The terrorists were killed by return fire. In an incident whose details are still being investigated, an Israeli Arab was shot dead by soldiers in southern Gaza yesterday, when he failed to comply with orders to stop his vehicle. Meanwhile, Israeli motorists were targeted by gunfire in northern Gaza last night on the Karni-Netzarim road. There were no injuries.
In recent weeks, the IDF has been examining the possibility of flooding a series of illegal tunnels along the Egyptian-Israeli border. The tunnels have been used for the smuggling of weapons and other contraband between the Sinai and PA-controlled sections of Gaza. The needed permits and agreement for the plan have already been received, and it will involve the use of waste water produced by the new desalinization plant in Ketziot.
