Iran’s nuclear program is rapidly approaching the 90% uranium enrichment threshold, Israel’s Foreign Minister warned Tuesday, calling on the United States to confront Tehran with a “credible military threat.”

Speaking at an event in Jerusalem hosted by the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen (Likud) castigated Tehran as the world’s “number one financier” of terrorism, and said the US must intervene to deter Iran from moving forward with its atomic ambitions.

“Iran is the number one financer of global terror,” said Cohen. “Today, Iranian terror is killing free citizens of Europe.”

“Iran is very close to 90% enrichment of uranium. The United States must put a credible military threat on the table immediately.”

Cohen touted his recent visit to Kyiv, during which he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Israel’s efforts to rescue survivors of the massive earthquake on the Turkish-Syrian border earlier this month, calling the Israeli mission to southern Turkey “tikkun olam,” a Hebrew term meaning “repairing the world.”

“I was the first Foreign Minister from the Middle East to have visited Ukraine when I went last week. It is very important to us to show our support for the Ukrainian people. I told President Zelensky we will support with Ukraine in the UN, continue to supply humanitarian aid, and share our alert system.”

“We also have direct communications with Russia. There is a large Jewish community in Russia, and Russia is an important player in our region.”
