MK Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionist Party), the head of the Knesset Constitution Committee, gave a speech at the Knesset plenum on Monday night, before the approval in the first reading of the bills related to the judicial reform.
During the speech, Rothman took a few moments to speak in English and directly appealed to the Jews of the Diaspora, urging them not to rely on what is said in the media about the judicial reform, but rather to read the legislation itself.
“I beg you, my friends, and our friends from around the world: Don’t read the news. Read the bill. Read what’s in this law,” he said.
“This law is very simple: It says that the Knesset can act as a sovereign and make Basic Laws and the court cannot cancel them, and it says that the Israeli people, that the Jewish people, in their homeland, will have the ability to choose their judges like any other free country in the world,” Rothman explained.
“We want to be a democracy like any other democracy in the world, where the nation, where the people can choose and elect their judges. Don’t believe the lies. Read the bill,” he added.
