President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine Monday, arriving in the capital city of Kyiv for his first visit to the country since Russia's invasion last year.
The trip comes almost a year to the day since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, and follows similar trips by other world leaders in recent weeks.
Biden met with his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv, delivering joint remarks to reporters.
During the press conference, Biden announced plans to transfer some 500 million dollars-worth of aid to Ukraine, including howitzers, missiles, and artillery ammunition.
"One year later, Kyiv stands. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands,” Biden said.
The Ukrainian president told reporters that he and Biden had discussed "long range weapons and the weapons that may still be supplied to Ukraine even though it wasn’t supplied before.”
