Former Sefardic Chief Rabbi of Israel and current Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, met with Bnaya Peretz, the yeshiva student who was severely injured when an Arab terrorist shot him in Samaria and supported him ahead of the fundraising campaign for a complex overseas medical procedure that will help him walk again.
During the visit, Rabbi Amar heard how Bnaya was injured in a shooting attack at the Tapuah Junction two years ago and about the special surgery that, if successful, can regain Bnaya's ability to walk. Rabbi Amar was moved by Bnaya's willpower and faith and called on the public to enlist and join Bnaya's struggle to walk again and beat terrorism.
During the meeting, Rabbi Amar stated: "I heard about the special surgery that is done far away, which is certainly out of the family's financial reach. Praise be to those who support this important mitzvah, which helps preserve a very important man who has faith and trust in G-d and is a Torah scholar; this is certainly a great honor. 'It is a tree of life for those who hold on to it, and those who support it rejoice.' In this merit, you shall receive pleasure from your children and be blessed with all that is good." Rabbi Amar joins the long list of rabbis and public figures who heard Bnaya's story and are calling to help him fight his battle.

As mentioned, this week, Bnaya Peretz and his family launched a fundraising campaign calling to help Bnaya "defeat terrorism by walking". The campaign aims to fund an innovative medical procedure overseas that will allow Bnaya to walk. The campaign received widespread public support, and within hours of its launch, it raised approximately two million Shekels from over 11,000 different supporters. The cost of the procedure is approximated at four million Shekels, including a special flight with a medical team, which will guide Bnaya through the rehabilitation process.
Bnaya was injured during a shooting attack at the Tapuah Junction in Samaria while he stood with his friends on their way to the Itamar Yeshiva. As a result of the attack, Bnaya was critically injured, his friend Yehuda Guetta HY'D was murdered, and an additional friend was lightly wounded. Bnaya's injuries completely paralyzed him, but thanks to a lengthy rehabilitation process and extraordinary willpower, he managed to regain his ability to move his upper body, and now the surgery will help him walk again and defeat terrorism.
