Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper reported that Egypt acted during the past week to restrain Hamas and dissuade the terrorist organization from actions that would lead to a new military conflict with Israel.

Messages in this spirit were conveyed to a Hamas delegation, led by Ismail Haniyeh, which met in Cairo with the head of Egyptian intelligence.

According to the report, the Egyptians presented Hamas with a possible compensation for calming the situation, which included easing the passage of goods and people at the Rafah crossing to help the Palestinian Arab economy in the Gaza Strip and also to gain time until the US administration reaches an understanding with Israel.

Egypt is also working to achieve progress regarding the conditions of the imprisoned terrorists, even though National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir seeks to toughen them.

The Egyptians also told the senior Hamas officials that a military confrontation would cancel all the understandings reached after the previous rounds of confrontation, and this would also occur because of the difficulties in communication with the Israeli government "due to Israeli stubbornness".

The report also indicated that the Egyptian Chief of Staff, Osama Askar, directly addressed IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, during their meeting in Bahrain for an international military conference, and asked him to pressure the government to stop the escalation, stressing the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of it degenerating into a conflict on several fronts.
