Dianne Lob, Chair, and William Daroff, CEO, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations mourns the loss of life and offers condolences to the thousands of individuals and families affected by the 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Our hearts go out to the people of both nations as they face this unimaginable tragedy.

“We commend the first responders and emergency personnel from several nations, including the United States and Israel, who are working tirelessly to save lives and provide aid. Their bravery and dedication in the face of natural disaster is awe-inspiring.

“The Conference is in communication with the Jewish communal leadership in Turkey, to express our support and commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of the Jewish communities who may also be among the potential victims of this earthquake. American Jewry stands in solidarity with all those affected and will help alongside our international partners to deliver resources and alleviate suffering.

“We pray for the victims, their families, and for a swift and full recovery for the communities disrupted by this devastating event.”
