IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) forces conducted counterterrorism activity overnight Sunday in order to apprehend the terrorist squad who carried out the shooting attack at a restaurant at the community of Vered Yeriho.

The attack took place on January 28, 2023, when two terrorists armed with weapons and military vests arrived at the entrance of a restaurant at the community of Vered Yeriho, where 30 civilians were staying at the time, in order to carry out a deadly attack. Due to a firearm malfunction, the terrorists fled toward the city of Jericho and an attack which would have hurt many civilians was prevented.

Overnight, the IDF and Shin Bet conducted joint counterterrorism activity in the Aqabat Jabr Camp. During the activity, a number of armed assailants were killed after firing toward IDF soldiers who were operating in the area.

The target of the activity was to apprehend the Hamas terrorist squad that carried out the shooting attack at the restaurant at the community of Vered Yeriho.

Since the attack, thanks to Shin Bet and IDF intelligence effort, it was discovered that the armed suspects were barricading in a residence in the Aqabat Jabr Camp adjacent to the city of Jericho, with the assistance of their families and locals, while declaring their intention to continue with terrorist activities.

Over the last week, the IDF and Shin Bet conducted an additional activity in order to apprehend the terrorist squad, and since then the efforts to locate have continued.

During the activity, IDF soldiers spotted a number of armed suspects and an exchange of fire was instigated. The soldiers operated to stop the assailants and to neutralize the threat. A number of the assailants who were neutralized were involved in the attack at the Almog Junction. No IDF injuries were reported.
