The former Speaker of the Knesset, Israel's ambassador to Poland and former chairman of the Yad Vashem Council Shevach Weiss passed away this morning (Saturday) at the age of 87.

Shevach left behind two children and a granddaughter. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 14:30 on Mount Herzl.

President Isaac Herzog eulogized him: "I mourn the death of Shevah Weiss, the former speaker of the Knesset. A holocaust survivor who became a world-renowned professor, chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, Israel's ambassador to Poland and loyalist of the labor movement. He loved his people and his country, which he represented brilliantly. My condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace."

Prime Minister Netanyahu lamented: "My wife Sarah and I express our deep sorrow for the passing of former Knesset Speaker Shevach Weiss. Shevach was a faithful representative of the Holocaust survivors and of the people of Israel. May he rest in peace."
