The Jewish Agency reports that Canadian Jews demonstrated most impressive solidarity with Israel in 2002 with a record number of missions and participants, totaling over 800 people. In addition, an unprecedented Israel Emergency Campaign has raised some 30 million Canadian dollars, more than half of which has already been sent to Israel for emergency services and aid to terrorism victims.
Twenty-five Canadian Jewish groups, sponsored by the UIA Federations Canada (UIAFC), arrived in Israel in 2002, including 16 from Toronto alone. Birthright Canada hosted some 1,700 participants in the past year, and delegations have arrived for the Jewish Agency Board of Governors sessions, Partnership 2000 Steering Committee meetings, and others. Mission participants received top-level briefings from government officials, IDF and police officers, journalists, medical personnel, aid workers, and terror victims.
