The Ukrainian Interior Minister and his deputy were killed in a helicopter crash Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred adjacent to a day care center in the town of Brovary, in the Kyiv district, local authorities said.
"In Brovary a helicopter has crashed next to a nursery and residential building," said Kyiv regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba via Telegram.
"Children and the employees of the kindergarten were there at the moment of the tragedy."
A total of 18 people, including three children, were killed in the crash. In addition, 29 people were injured, including 15 children.
Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Yenin were both killed in the crash.
A preliminary investigation into the accident suggests the crash was the result of poor visibility due to heavy fog.
