Welfare and Social Security Minister Yaakov Margi (Shas) spoke to Israel National News on Tuesday evening and commented on the expected ruling of the Supreme Court on the petitions against the appointment of the chairman of his party, Aryeh Deri, to the position of minister in the government.
"Unfortunately, we estimate that the Supreme Court will disqualify the appointment of Minister Deri. In recent years, the Supreme Court of Justice has not missed any opportunities to damage the public's trust in it, and the apparent ruling will further damage trust in the court," said Margi.
He added that "there is a large public of over 400,000 Shas voters and over two million voters from the right-wing bloc who went to the polls knowing and wanting Minister Deri to be a senior minister in the government."
To the question of what Shas expects to happen if its assessment does come true and the court rules against Minister Deri, Margi replied, "The judges' decision will be placed at the doorstep of Prime Minister Netanyahu and he will have to decide on the issue and find a solution. After that, the Council of Torah Sages will meet and discuss the issue."
