The emergency regulations allowing normal civilian life in Judea and Samaria, which brought down the previous government, will be brought to the Knesset for passage in the coming weeks.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett resigned and called for new elections in June 2022 after failing to garner enough Knesset votes to renew the regulations for another five years. The regulations were opposed by Arab coalition partner Ra'am and the opposition, led by current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also refused to vote in favor despite supporting the regulations, in a successful attempt to bring down the government. Bennett saw new elections as the only way to extend the regulations and allow the residents of Judea and Samaria to maintain a normal life, as the elections allowed for an automatic extension of the regulations.

Kan Reshet Bet reported that Coalition Chairman MK Ofir Katz intends to bring to a vote in the Knesset plenum the regulations that allow for Israel's entire law enforcement and legal system to continue to operate in Judea and Samaria, including the ability to judge Palestinian Arabs who commit terrorist and criminal acts, imprison them and also carry out police enforcement actions against them.

The Judea and Samaria regulations will be the first or among the first pieces of legislation that the new coalition is expected to approve and work on them will begin almost immediately with the goal of completing their passage in the coming weeks.

The automatic extension of the regulations which was brought about by the elections will expire soon, leading to a rush against time to renew them for a further five years.
