As of today, Israel has a toll road. Highway #6, known as the Trans-Israel highway, has been open for several weeks, but drivers began paying only today. The charge is based on the type of vehicle and the length of the route being traversed. The open sections of the not-yet completed highway currently run from Ben-Shemen, near Ben Gurion International Airport, northwards past Shoham, Rosh HaAyin, and Kalkilye up until Kibbutz Eyal.
Several hareidi citizens protesting the construction work have been arrested. They claim that the digging and paving desecrates the sanctity of the ancient graves found at the site.
