As of today, Israel has a toll road. Highway #6, known as the Trans-Israel highway, has been open for several weeks, but as of today drivers will have to pay. The charge is based on the kind of vehicle and the length of the route being traveled. The highway is not completed, but the sections currently open run from Ben-Shemen, near Ben Gurion International Airport, northwards past Shoham, Rosh HaAyin, and Kalkilye up until Kibbutz Eyal. Several hareidi citizens protesting the construction work were arrested. They claim that the digging and paving desecrates the sanctity of the ancient graves found at the site.
