Education Minister Limor Livnat has sent letters to her French counterpart and the French Minister-Delegate for Research and New Technology, condemning attempts by the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris to impose an academic boycott on Israeli universities. She also cited the university's efforts to convince the European Union and other universities to impose similar sanctions.
"Even in times of hatred between different countries during the Middle Ages," Minister Livnat wrote, "the scientific and academic world continued to work together to obtain knowledge and carry out joint research in a positive atmosphere." She expressed her wonder as to why it was that the Pierre and Marie Curie University was willing to build contacts and cooperate with universities in Gaza, at the expense of its relationship with Israeli universities.
