The IDF scored another success last night in its efforts to locate arms-smuggling tunnels running from Egypt to PA-controlled areas in Gaza. Army officials acknowledge that the tight controls on land and sea entrances to Gaza have encouraged the Arabs to develop high-level engineering skills in building better tunnels for arms-smuggling, and that the tunnels often reach 15 or 20 meters deep. The one uncovered last night opened into a home in Rafiach, where two ready-to-detonate bombs were also discovered. The tunnel and bombs were safely blown up, as were other nearby abandoned buildings that had often been used by Arabs attacking Israeli forces. IDF troops came under fire during the operation; no one was hurt, and the soldiers returned fire.
