U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman, who is believed to be on the verge of announcing his candidacy for the U.S. Presidency, is visiting Israel this week. He met with Prime Minister Sharon last night, and told him that he has not seen such strong support for Israel in the Senate as he sees now. The visitor, an Orthodox Jew, advised Sharon to stop construction in Yesha. The Saudi Press Agency reported today that Lieberman, visiting in Ramallah today, said that there is "strong support [in Congress] for the aspirations of the Palestinian people for a state. The question is whether there will be sufficient leadership here and in the world to bring this about sooner than later."
Foreign Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is also traveling, and he arrived in Moscow last night. He will meet there today and tomorrow with his counterpart Igor Ivanov and other officials. Netanyahu will also visit the theater that Chechen terrorists commandeered several weeks ago in a terrorist attack that lead to over 130 deaths.
