The level of the Kinneret Sea, the nation's main aquifer, rose 11 centimeters (4.3 inches) over the weekend due to the heavy rains, and now stands at 214.2 meters below sea level. This is a half-meter higher than it was last year at this time, but still 1.2 meters below the government-recommended minimum. More heavy rains are predicted for Tuesday.
The Mt. Hermon ski areas received much snow over the weekend, justifying their opening to visitors today. Actual skiers, however, will apparently have to wait until the next snowstorm.
