Fighting the scourge of illegal foreign workers means not only finding and deporting them. The Immigration Police discovered a large forgeries laboratory in Raanana yesterday at which all the important documents an illegal worker needs could be produced. Among the fraudulent stamps found there were border-crossing imprints, university degrees, salary slips for receiving mortgages, and stamps of senior Interior Ministry officials. The police have arrested a suspect who admitted to having forged over 150 entry permits for foreign workers. As reported yesterday, some 10,000 illegal foreign workers have been deported in the past several months, and it is estimated that another 50,000 will leave in the year 2003. Israel currently has some 300,000 foreign workers, while 265,000 Israelis - 10.4% of the workforce - are unemployed.
