A report by the Palestinian Arab NGO Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ) claims that "the number of settlers in the West Bank (and East Jerusalem) has reached one million people."
The document states that the settlements take up an area of 201 square kilometers, which amounts to 6.3 percent of the total area of Judea and Samaria.
The report also claims that Israel formulated three plans to expand existing settlements - Talmon, Shiloh and Na'ama - by "taking over Palestinian lands and establishing housing units and a project to utilize solar energy."
The NGO says that "the settlers receive many concessions from the authorities", and that "the policy of Israeli governments for generations on the issue of settlements is contrary to international law, UN resolutions and the Geneva Convention."
