The Kfar Saba Magistrate's Court sentenced a senior commander from a Border Police undercover unit to a shortened sentence of one year and four months in prison and monetary compensation, after he was convicted of assaulting a policewoman under his command.

According to the verdict, the defendant took advantage of his position to assign the officer to an operation where the two would be posing as a couple.

The defendant was further implicated with assaulting the woman on a number of occasions under the guise of professional duty.

At the sentencing stage, the Department of Police Investigations considered the seriousness of the defendant's actions which exploited the innocence of the policewoman and his senior position to carry out the crimes. The department pointed out the serious nature of the offenses and the importance of punishing the defendant to increase the deterrence level against crimes targeting members of the army and police force.

In the sentence, Judge Michael Karshan ruled that: "The defendant took advantage of the innocence and great enthusiasm of an 18-year-old female soldier in compulsory service placed in the unit...The defendant's actions were planned in advance while the officer was convinced of the innocence of his actions."
