US officials told reporters that American forces have killed the leader of ISIS in Syria in an airstrike earlier Tuesday.
According to NBC, the strike targeted Maher al-Agal and his deputy. Al-Agal was killed but it’s not clear whether the deputy was killed or injured.
Al-Agal is the latest ISIS leader to be killed. In February, former ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al Hashimi al Qurays was killed in a raid by US forces. Al Qurays blew himself up rather than risk being captured.
In 2019,the ISIS terrorist organization's first leader and founder, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, was killed in another US raid.
