Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Minister Natan Sharansky, Chairman of the Yisrael B'Aliya Party, has sent letters to the various Knesset factions, calling on their leaders to join him in reforming Israel's democracy and to restore accountability to the Israeli political system. “We must re-invent our political system to truly represent the Israeli body politic,” Sharansky wrote, in light of current allegations of corruption in the Labor and Likud conventions.

At the end of the last Knesset session, Yisrael B'Aliya MKs tabled a bill calling for direct, regional election of 30 Knesset members. The proposal would create six legislative districts, each of which would elect 5 Knesset members to represent a geographic region. The party is also interested in restoring the system of direct election of the Prime Minister and raising the minimum threshold for Knesset representation from 1.5% to 2.5% of the valid votes. "Together," MK-candidate Eli Kazhdan said, "these reforms are part of our agenda to bring real democracy and accountability to Israel."
