Labor's new party platform, to be submitted for party approval this week, omits the traditional declaration that united Jerusalem will remain under Israeli sovereignty. Party leader Amram Mitzna says that this is just an expression of "intellectual honesty," as even Prime Minister Sharon is building a fence dividing eastern and western Jerusalem.
Yisrael B'Aliyah's new platform states: "In principle, decisions involving religion and the public domain should be decided at as local and decentralized a level as possible... Decentralizing these matters down from the national level is the best way of reducing or even eliminating the tensions surrounding religion and state in Israel... [C]ommunities... should have the right to zone private commercial activity [on Saturday] and the establishment of small private transport companies, which could operate during the whole week, including Saturday..."
