Well-known Atty. Yoram Sheftel accuses Attorney-General Elyakim Rubenstein and State Prosecutor Edna Arbel of attempting to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections. Speaking with Arutz-7 today, Sheftel said that Rubenstein acted "unjustly" when he instructed the police to begin a criminal investigation into alleged improper practices in the Likud primaries that took place last week, "while at the same time avoiding an investigation of Labor Party leaders for much worse acts."

Sheftel reminded the listeners that during the elections of 1999, Rubenstein and Arbel ordered a police investigation into the illegal activities of the Labor Party only after the State Comptroller issued his report on the matter - a full eight months later.

The media in Israel are giving much attention to offers of votes-for-money that allegedly occurred during the Likud primaries last week. MK Nechama Ronen and former MK Akiva Nof, both of whom received slots way down on the Likud Knesset list, say that Central Committee members asked them for money in return for their votes.
