The two victims of last night's fatal attack between Hevron and Kiryat Arba were buried today. Corp. Keren Yaakobi, 19 - the only woman soldier to be killed in action since women were assigned to combat duty - was buried in the military cemetery in Hadera. Sgt. Maor Kalfon, 19, of Kiryat Yam, was laid to rest in the Tzur Shalom Military Cemetery northeast of Haifa. Both had insisted, despite considerations to the contrary, on serving in a Military Police combat unit.

Arab snipers, standing in an abandoned Arab building across from the guardpost manned by the two soldiers, shot them from a range of some 50 meters. Following the murderous attack, leaders of Kiryat Arba and Hevron met with Hevron military commander Col. Haggai Mordechai and Judea regional commander Brig.-Gen. Amos Ben-Avraham. Col. Mordechai said that the two killers opened fire around 8 PM, using automatic weapons, from a second-floor window. They then fled some distance by foot, and were met by a car that transported them from the area deep into Hevron.

In the hours after the attack, IDF forces demolished three homes near the site of the shooting, and two others belonging to Arab terrorists in Hevron.
