The deadline for submitting lists of Knesset candidates for the upcoming national elections is midnight tonight. Some 33 parties are expected to submit lists today. The elections board will announce the approved lists on January 3, 25 days before the elections.

Shas Party officials under the leadership of spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef are still working on the final composition of the party's lineup. It is well-known that its current 19-MK Knesset faction will be reduced significantly, probably by half, thus exacerbating tensions regarding who will be located where on the list. Supporters of former leader Aryeh Deri are most likely to find themselves pushed down on the list and out of the Knesset.

In other election news: Meretz will be voting today on the last-minute additions to its party list - namely, Yossi Beilin and Yael Dayan, who were Labor Party members up til Tuesday, in the 11th and 12th places on the Meretz list… Yossi Katz, another extreme left-wing MK who, like Beilin and Dayan, was relegated to a low spot on the Labor list announced his resignation from politics today...

Last-minute changes in the Likud Party list include moving some of the reserved women's spots down two places (in light of the two reserved places at the top for Sharon and Netanyahu). Inbal Gavrieli, Leah Ness, and Penina Rosenblum have thus dropped to the 31st, 36th, and 41st places respectively, thus enabling Ze'ev Boim to climb from 35 to 34, Moshe Feiglin from 41 to 40, etc.
