Four hundred Jewish community activists and leaders from the U.S. arrived yesterday on a United Jewish Communities (UJC) mega-mission. Participants hail from Seattle, Philadelphia, LeHigh Valley, Minneapolis, Memphis, Dallas and Tucson. They will be visiting Jerusalem, Kiryat Malachi, and other communities with which their hometowns have a Partnership 2000 relationship. This fall, 1,700 UJC Israel mission participants have provided a badly needed boost to Israel's economy, with an estimated 10,100 hotel nights and 313 days of tour guides and bus days.

Many of the visitors will be participating in the dedication tomorrow of 39 security vehicles paid for by the UJC's $319 million Israel Emergency Campaign “Keeping the Children Safe” Program. The ceremony will be held at the Jewish Agency's Kiryat Moriah Educational Campus in Jerusalem; Prime Minister Sharon, Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor and Israel Police Commissioner Shlomo Aharonishki are expected to attend. The vehicles, together with 400 state-of-the-art communications units, will be given over to various Civil Guard chapters around the country.
