Likud MK Michael Eitan has a major complaint against Israel's media. He says that their treatment of the new Likud candidates list as opposed to their approach to the Labor Party list is "pure hypocrisy:"
"Ever since the Likud's party list was publicized, the press - for the most part - has been working overtime to scare the public about the Likud list. [One TV commentator] said, twice, that some of the new Likud candidates don't know how to read or write, Army Radio has a story against Gila Gamliel, and in general they are looking for every possible stain against any Likud candidate and attacking in every way. Yet on the other hand, regarding the biggest scandal of all they say not a word! I have sent messages and queries, yet they say nothing... I am referring to Yitzchak Herzog, former Cabinet Secretary under Ehud Barak and #10 on the Labor list, who is suspected of deceit and robbery in the Labor Party campaign-funding scandal of three years ago. It's not me who says this; it was the State Comptroller who wrote that Herzog headed a framework that trampled the law... Herzog took monies that were to go for education, and used them for Ehud Barak's election campaign!" [Ed. note: Controller Eliezer Goldberg wrote that the associations working for the campaign of Ehud Barak and his One Israel party had struck a "great blow at the rule of law and at an important fundamental in our lives."
Eitan continued, "This man [Herzog] could, if he wanted to, explain his role - but he has chosen to maintain silence. And the press speaks not a word about him! This double standard cries out to heaven…"
