United Torah Judaism - comprised of Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael - has also compiled its list of candidates. Current MKs Yaakov Litzman, Avraham Ravitz, Meir Porush, and Moshe Gafni are in the first four spots, followed by new-entry Yisrael Eichler - a well-known hareidi journalist - in slot number five. Sixth and seventh are MK Shmuel Halpert and Jerusalem City Councilman Uri Makleb. Rotation agreements between Ravitz and Makleb, and Eichler and Halpert, are still possible.
Yossi Beilin and Yael Dayan, who were relegated to "unrealistic" spots on the Labor Party Knesset candidate list, have already found a new home. The two reached an agreement today with Meretz leader Yossi Sarid, according to which they will be given the 11th and 12th slots on the list. Voter surveys of Meretz party strength indicate that the two are still far from certain to enter the Knesset. In addition, the deal must still be ratified tomorrow by the party, which is already unhappy about having reserved the 5th spot to Roman Bronfman. Labor Party leader Amram Mitzna met earlier today with Beilin, with whom he shares extreme left-wing views, and asked him - in vain - not to join Meretz.
Meretz chose its MKs yesterday, retaining the same basic list as in the outgoing Knesset. All parties have until tomorrow night to submit their final list of Knesset candidates.
