Maybe Israelis should worry less about Trump’s peace plan and more about Benny Gantz’s peace plan.
Trump’s plan we don’t yet know, so it’s too early to duck. But Gantz’s plan we already know and it is already time to run for cover.
That’s how it looks from here. But what do we know. We only know what we read in the papers and it appears that two retired generals, Benny Gantz and Moshe Ya’alon have teamed up to take down Benjamin Netanyahu when elections come up in April. Don’t make me explain it again how the Israelis pick their leaders.
I explained it exhaustively here and I am still exhausted, but the crux of it is that the Israelis choose the party, not the individual. That’s one.
Two, they do not have a two-party system, as we do. No, they are Jewish. So they go by a 34-party system because among Jews everybody has a better idea and a BETTER PLAN.
The fuss is about Gantz’s BETTER PLAN. It has kicked up a storm. Not that it lacks support. Mahmoud Abbas, the terrorist warlord, LOVES it and can’t wait for April to come around.
That’s because Gantz, or so it is being reported, thinks that giving up Gaza and forcibly evacuating 8,000 Israelis from Gush Katif over there – was a marvelous pogrom.
Excuse me. That was a typo. I meant “program.”
Anyway, he thought the pogrom (there I go again) was so terrific, he wants to do it again.
Well, he can’t do it in Gaza, can he? Those Israelis are gone. Sharon, also a RETIRED GENERAL, saw to that. Hamas is there instead and who figured them to be going on killing sprees against Israel practically every day of the week – besides those of us who are not generals and knew this would happen.
We saw it coming simply by reading the papers. We did not need high tech intel and top-level strategists.
The papers told us in black and white that no amount of concessions will make them happy. They want Jews dead, period. Abbas actually pays people to kill Israelis. It’s no secret.
What papers are they reading in Israel? That’s a question for the Israeli left.
Did they read the latest, about the 19-year-old Jewish beauty brutally murdered at the hands of a Palestinian Arab?
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan understands it like this: “This is a people whose cultural codes are murderous.”
But to Gantz this is a people that needs to be given more Jewish territory. Of the 2005 Expulsion from Gaza, Gantz is quoted as follows:
“It was a legal move that was adopted by the Israeli government and carried out by the IDF and the settlers in a painful but good way. We have to take those lessons and implement them in other places.” Those “other places” would be Judea Samaria, for starters, and who knows where else.
That’s what’s causing so much anguish among people who are not leftists or generals.
Talk like that is mystifying to those of us who thought Jews being dragged from their homes was a sight we’d never see – again. Never in Israel.
Isn’t that what NEVER AGAIN is supposed to be about?
We cannot tell the Israelis how to vote. As of the moment, Gantz’s new party trails Netanyahu’s…but Gantz’s BETTER IDEA does have its supporters.
This is baffling – to imagine that even a single Israeli would be okay with doing Gush Katif all over again.
This needs explaining to Americans who are totally perplexed about this…please.
