Four terrorists were killed this afternoon in a clash with Israeli forces near Rafiach Yam, in Israel's southern Mediterranean area. Two other terrorists managed to escape.
IDF forces, including tanks and bulldozers, have returned to the Al-Bureij area in Gaza. Two Arabs were reported wounded in exchanges of fire with Israeli troops today. Of the ten Arabs who were killed in an IDF anti-terrorism incursion in the area on Friday, most were members of Hamas, while two were reported to be innocent UN workers - but in fact Hamas claimed that one of them was also a member of its ranks.
International criticism of Israel for killing the two was intense, despite Israel's justification in searching out and killing the leaders of the terrorist campaign that has killed 700 people in the past 26 months. Javier Solana of the European Union cited Israel for having operated in a densely-populated area, though he did not say if the Israeli forces should have first asked the terrorists to re-locate to a different spot. UNRWA chief Peter Hansen was similarly upset by the IDF's use of "indiscriminate use of heavy firepower" in such areas. Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller warned Israel against using "excessive might," and a "gravely concerned" UN Secretary-General Kofi Anan urged Israel to "show restraint."
Palestinian terrorists fired at an Israeli car in the Shomron this morning.
