Two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded this morning when a Hizbullah-placed roadside bomb exploded near their outpost on Israel's northern border near Moshav Zar'it. One soldier was wounded in his legs, and his colleague suffered serious wounds to the head; they were both operated on today in Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
The bomb went off as a routine patrol drove along the road adjacent to the border fence. O.C. Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz, who placed the entire border area under high alert after the attack, said that this was only the second major incident in the western sector of the border since the IDF withdrawal from Lebanon 30 months ago. In the other case, Hizbullah terrorists infiltrated into Israel near Shlomi nine months ago and murdered six Israelis.
Regarding the IDF's retaliation plans, Gen. Gantz said, "We will consider our steps. Every rope has an end. No one should think that we will continue to sit by and give explanations…" He blamed Hizbullah, Lebanon, and Syria for direct and indirect responsibility for the attack.
Hizbullah is threatening to kidnap IDF soldiers to be used as bargaining chips for the release of the many Arab terrorists imprisoned in Israel. In other terrorist-threat news, Al-Qaeda, which has now taken official responsibility for the Kenya attacks, says it plans to carry out additional attacks against Israeli targets around the world.
