Early this morning, IDF tanks and ground troops, backed up by IAF helicopters, entered the Bureij district of Gaza City. The incursion, which was meant to secure the capture or killing of Islamic Jihad terrorist Gema’el Isma’il, led to an intense gun battle between Arab gunmen and IDF soldiers. During the course of the battle, an IDF tank fired at a two story building where Isma’il was hiding. The residents of Bureij were goaded to confront the troops by calls to fight the “Zionist infidels” broadcast over local mosque loudspeakers. Nine Arabs were killed in the Gaza battle, most of the them armed gunmen, and one Israeli soldier was lightly hurt.

In yesterday’s Oslo War news, an explosive device was thrown at IDF troops operating near Shechem... A bomb was hurled at IDF forces in the Abu Sneineh neighborhood of Hevron... Arab gunmen fired an anti-tank grenade and opened fire at IDF armored personnel carriers on the Israeli-Egyptian border, near Rafiah. IDF troops returned fire. There were no injuries to Israeli troops in any of the incidents.

Israeli civilians were also targeted by Arab terrorists yesterday. Arab terrorists threw a firebomb at an Israeli woman driving near her home in the town of Dolev, located in the Binyamin region, west of Ramallah. Another firebomb was thrown at an Israeli driving near the El-Aroub refugee camp, near the town of Carmei Tzur, south of Bethlehem. No injuries were reported in either incident.
