The annual Torch Run will be held today, in memory of slain Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi, on three different routes around the country. Combining walking, cars, and buses, the torch-bearers will set out from the Golan through the Gilboa Mountains to Beit She'an; from Tel Aviv to Ariel and Maaleh Efraim in the Jordan Valley; and from Jerusalem to the Shomron and Maaleh Adumim. The opening ceremony was held at the Western Wall this morning. The Jordan Valley will be renamed Gandhi Way, in memory of Ze'evi (who was known as Gandhi), and at 4 PM a torch will be lit in his memory on Mt. Sartaba - mentioned in the Mishna as a mountain on which torches would be lit to signal the advent of the new month - in an official ceremony. The day also includes a free-of-charge hike for families through the Jordan Valley.
