A program to encourage American visitors to donate blood while in Israel is well underway, sponsored by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI) and MDA Blood Services in Israel. Organizers of the “Sharing for Life” program say that the vital routine need for blood is augmented by victims of terror and soldiers on the front. Not only that, the threat of a biological terrorist attack has necessitated added supplies of blood components to produce antibodies for appropriate vaccines.
"Sharing for Life" affords tourists the chance to show solidarity with Israel in a manner that is both practical and symbolic. "There is no more personal demonstration of commitment and concern than giving blood," the organizers say. In addition to the MDA National Blood Center in Ramat Gan, one of the most advanced blood processing facilities in the world, ARMDI/MDA has also made available 25 mobile units - bloodmobiles - to meet groups at their hotels or other convenient locations.
