(Updated Thursday 10:30AM) Israeli citizens were the target of two terror attacks-one of them deadly- this morning, in and over the east Kenyan seaside resort city of Mombasa. In the first incident, a car packed with exploisives plowed into the lobby of Mombasa's Paradise Hotel at about 7AM and was detonated causing at least seven deaths and dozens of injuries. It is unknown as this time, how many of the victims were Israeli.
At the time of the bombing the lobby was packed with Israeli tourists who had just arrived in Mombasa this morning and were checking in to the hotel. An Israeli woman who was on the scene told Israel Radio that it took local emergency personnel over two hours to arrive on the scene to treat the wounded. The Foreign Ministry says that Israel is in the process of dispatching a plane of emergency personnel to Kenya to treat the wounded.
In the second incident, which took place within minutes of the bomb attack, terrorists fired two or three shoulder-launched missiles at Arkia Airlines flight #582 traveling from Mombasa to Israel with over 261 passengers and crew on board shortly after takeoff. While the missiles failed to damage their intended target, reports indicate that shrapnel may have made contact with the jetliner. The plane continued on its route and is expected to arrive in Israel at about 12:30PM. Log on to IsraelNationalNews.com throughout the day for updates on this story.
